Notice how Federer's racquet is VERTICLE UPON CONTACT OF THE BALL. The racquet is travelling from low to high thus putting top spin on the ball. You also want to take a look at Federer's takeback and the way the UNIT TURN is a necessary part of the takeback. Federer's head is also STILL and FOCUSED on HITTING the BALL.
